Indians advance in state net tourney |
| Pascack Valley ousted Wayne Hills from the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section
1, Group III girls tennis tournament on Thursday by a score of 4-1. The win upped the Indians overall record to
a sparkling 12-1. Dana Cohen led by example as the Indians ace coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Laurs Schlockman at first singles. Melissa Harwin came on strong in the No. 2 singles slot to rout Michelle Reicher 6-3, 6-0. In the doubles action, the No. 1 tandem of Melissa Karrel and Jen Shorr rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win against Elise Cece and Irina Chernyak with the second doubles duo of Rachel Freedman and Lisa Rosen posting a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Lisa Abramowitz and Erin Moskal. On Monday, Pascack Valley edged Northern Valley/Demarest 3-2 in an NBIL tennis match. Harwin posted a 6-3, 6-2 win against Grace Kang in the No. 2 singles slot with Michelle Stoler rolling to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jane So at third singles. Cassie Resnick scored twice, upping her season total to five goals, as she led Pascack Valley to a 3-1 win over Northern Valley/Demarest in an NBIL girls soccer match played in Hillsdale on Wednesday. Ellen LaRossa chipped in with a goal and an assist while Sarah Fuchs and Lauren Hunter were credited with assists. Keeper Kristen Browne came up with saves as the Indians claimed their first "W" of the season and upped their overall record to 1-7-1. Pascack Valley was blanked 2-0 by Northern Valley/Demarest in a boys soccer played on Tuesday. Keeper Greg Miller was peppered with 14 shots on goal, coming up with a dozen saves. In NBIL girls cross country action, Pascack Valley swept Bergenfield (15-50), Northern Valley (24-34) and Pascack Hills (15-50) on Monday at Demarest's 3.1-mile course. Tara Connelly was the lead Indian, finishing second overall in 21 minutes, 11 seconds while Kate Diana (21:44), Lisa Haystrand (21:50) and Sarah Wolcott (21:53) finished 4-5-6 as PV remained unbeaten at 11-0. |

| Unbeaten Pascack Valley rolled to its fifth straight victory in girls tennis
as the Indians blanked Pascack Hills 5-0 in an NBIL matchup contested on Tuesday. Dana Cohen came on strong to
defeat Jaclyn Winkoff 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-0 in the No. 1 singles confrontation. Melissa Harwin coasted to a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Erica Blau in the No. 2 singles slot and Michelle Stoler outlasted Jessica Raher 6-4, 7-5 at third singles. In the doubles action, the No. 1 tandem of Melissa Karrel and Jen Shorr posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ashley Anton and Halle Weiner. At second doubles the duo of Rachel Freedman and Lisa Rosen cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rachel Tipograph and Jen Winkoff. Keeper Greg Miller turned aside all nine shots on goal to blank Fair Lawn 3-0 in an NBIL boys soccer match played Wednesday afternoon in Hillsdale. The win upped the Indians record to 2-4-2 as senior sweeper Luke Illian led the attack, netting a pair of first half goals while Dan Fernhoff chipped in with a goal and an assist. Matt Duschaj and Nicek Elefther were credited with solo assists. Pascack Valley swept a girls triangular cross country meet with Ramsey (25-30) and Ramapo (18-38) as Tara Connelley covered her 3.1-mile home course in 20 minutes, 16 seconds with teammate Katie Diana following her across the line with a time of 20 minutes, 17 seconds. Jill Wessels was the third Indian to finish, posting a clocking of 20 minutes, 22 seconds. In NBIL girl volleyball, Pascack Valley cruised to a 2-0 win over Indian Hills on Tuesday. Jaclyn DeMais keyed the attack, delivering a dozen service points, including a pair of aces and spiking three kills as the Indians posted wins of 15-4, 15-10. |
