Rookie coaches on Bears soccer fields |
| Michael Duggan and Tracy Trobiano take over the helms of the Bergenfield
High School soccer programs. Duggan inherits the boys' squad which went 5-10-1 a year ago while Trobiano takes
over the girls' squad that posted a 6-11-1 mark in 2001. Duggan welcomed five starters back for the Bears, four of whom are seniors, and talented one at that. Forward David Burns earned NBIL all star first team accolades as a junior, while defender Scott Buckley received honorable mention from the league's coaches. Forward Chris Ayaz has demonstrated marked improvement in the preseason practice sessions while Mike Fillippone is a veteran defender. The status of goalie Vinny Bufis, a junior, is currently in doubt as a result of a knee injury he sustained during the summer. Trobiano has the credentials to develop a winning program after posting 12 winning seasons at Glen Rock that included six NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group I titles over the last seven years. She will look to senior defender Allison D'Esposito, the captain and only senior on the roster, to provide veteran on-the-field leadership, D'Esposito received honorable mention accolades from the NBIL coaches a year ago. Junior Christine Bellottie has been moved to the sweeper slot after playing in the midfield as a sophomore. Her classmates, both forwards, Jen Lanzano and Melissa Smithand, will provide the scoring for this youthful squad that has eight juniors and four sophomores on the varsity roster. |
